Fabiana Pigna ~
Fabiana Pigna was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela.
She started courses in fine art and painting at age 10 and continued her studies in Fashion Design and Illustration.
She moved to Los Angeles six years ago, where she finished her major in Fashion Design in The Art Institute of California. She continues pursuing painting and drawing and experiments with the aesthetics of fashion in her work.
"Ever since I became interested in illustration and drawing, my inspiration relied mainly on old cartoon characters of damsels and mythological figures that I found in books and magazines. As the process evolves, factors like fashion, politics and society play an important role in the outcome and choice of materials.
My paintings are portraits of women that are somewhat taken by an unknown entity and have a sense of constant longing and need. It ranges from hate and discomfort to melancholy and unfound love. I like to link my images with references to South and Central American cultures, whether lyrics from songs, old sayings, customs or superstitions.
I have changed my painting techniques throughout every piece and it is an element that I keep experimenting with as I go along."
